5 Authentic Málaga Festivals to Discover Before September Ends

September in Málaga is much more than the last days at the beach. Towns and villages across the province celebrate some of their most special traditions, making the end of summer the perfect time to discover a different side of Málaga.

1. Andalusian Arab Festival – Salares

Salares | 18–20 September

For one weekend, this small white village in the Axarquía celebrates its Andalusian heritage with markets, music, performances, workshops and local food.

Beyond the festival itself, it's worth wandering through the narrow streets of Salares and taking the opportunity to discover some of the other white villages nearby.

2. La Quema – Algarrobo

Algarrobo | September

One of the Axarquía's most unusual celebrations. La Quema commemorates a historic episode in which, according to local tradition, Algarrobo was nearly burned down during the French occupation.

The village brings this story back to life with historical reenactments, period costumes, markets and activities throughout its streets.

3. Fiesta de la Cabra Malagueña – Casabermeja

Casabermeja | September

A festival dedicated to one of the province's most representative native breeds: the Malagueña goat.

It's the perfect opportunity to discover Málaga's rural traditions and, of course, taste local cheeses, products and some of the area's most authentic flavours.

4. Día de la Pasa – El Borge

El Borge | September

In the heart of the Axarquía, El Borge celebrates one of its most iconic products: the Moscatel raisin.

A day to discover the traditional raisin-making process, taste local products and enjoy the spectacular vineyard landscapes surrounding the village.

5. Feria de San Miguel – Torremolinos

Torremolinos | End of September

Music, dancing, traditional dress and a fantastic atmosphere bring September to a close on the Costa del Sol.

One of the highlights is the Romería de San Miguel, with decorated carts, horses, music and local food. A fantastic way to experience an authentic Andalusian celebration.
