Urban Buses
The Municipal Transport Company of Malaga (EMT) has 45 lines connecting the center with all neighborhoods. A single ticket costs 1.40 euros, payable in cash or with a contactless card (VISA or MasterCard). If you plan to use the bus frequently, it is convenient to purchase a transfer card for 1.90 euros, which you can recharge to save on each trip. Line A (airport) does not accept this card and is priced at 4 euros. Buses operate from 6:30 am to 11:00 pm, with night lines between 11:30 pm and 5:30 am depending on the day. It is recommended to download the EMT app to know the waiting times in real time.
Intercity Buses
From Malaga, you can access the entire metropolitan area by bus, including destinations such as Mijas and Nerja. Prices vary according to the distance, being an economical option along with the suburban train. It is recommended to buy tickets at the counter of the Muelle Heredia stop. Schedules are less frequent than in the urban lines and depend on the destination, so it is advisable to check schedules before traveling.
Commuter Train
The suburban train is an excellent option to move around Malaga and its metropolitan area. Prices range from 1.80 to 3.60 euros depending on the area. You can pay at the machines in the stations. There are two lines: C1, which connects Malaga with Fuengirola passing through Torremolinos and Benalmadena; and C2, which goes to Alora. Trains operate from 5:20 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., with an approximate frequency of 30 minutes. Line C1 is the best option for reaching the airport.
Metro
The Malaga metro is a relatively new option. Prices vary from 1.35 euros per ride to 0.82 euros if you use the coin card. The metro has two lines: line 1, which connects the center with the university campus and the Parque Tecnológico, and line 2, which passes near the beach and neighborhoods such as Huelín. The timetables vary according to the day, with operation until 1:30 am on weekends. The cultural offer of the metro stands out, although it is recommended to avoid it on rainy days.
Bicycles and Scooters
For the more active, Malaga offers a bike lane for bicycles and scooters, managed by private companies. It is important to respect the circulation and parking areas to avoid fines. The service is available 24 hours a day.
